Welcome to Daryl's Cowboy and Military Cartoons!
I'm Daryl Talbot, Cowboy and Military Cartoonist. My cartoons and illustrations are used in magazines, books, T-shirts and greeting cards. My work is seen regularly in LEATHERNECK magazine and LEANIN TREE greeting cards. I cartooned for WESTERN HORSEMAN magazine for 45 years. I graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in art education in 1973. I was a member of the National Cartoonists Society for several years, but now I'm a member of Cowboy Cartoonists International and in 1997 I received the Will Rogers Cowboy Cartoonist of the Year Award from the Academy of Western Artists and 1st and 3rd Place in the all Navy cartoon contest in ALL HANDS magazine in 1975. There's 4 books collecting my cowboy cartoons published by Pelican Publishing Co. and New Forums Press. After serving in the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force Reserve, Army Reserve and Oklahoma Air National Guard, and after 22 years of military service I have 2 books collecting my military cartoons, LAUGHING IN CADENCE and LAUGHING IN RANK AND FILE. These cartoons have appeared in LEATHERNECK MAGAZINE since 1971. Look for my books at Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. Ask for books by Daryl Talbot. My E-mail address is: daryl.talbot75@outlook.com. Great news! At the Cowboy True Western Art Show I received First Place in the Cowboy Cartoon Category. It was a fun and busy weekend. I won with the cartoon captioned: "Dear, this is the best show in three counties!" You can see the winning cartoon on my photo page. Check it out. COWBOY TRUE is a celebration to honor working cowboys and cowgirls and the artwork that comes from their daily lives. During the weekend of April 13 & 14, 2018, juried cowboy artists from around the nation were featured at the J.S. Bridwell Ag Center in Witchita Falls, Texas to display their unique works derived from cowboy life. Cowboy Cartoonists International (including myself) was there to show their work. I had a great time at Leanin' Tree in Boulder, Colorado with my Cowboy Cartoonists International friends in August 2017. We had a business meeting to decide on our next year's meeting place, Witchita Falls, Texas on April 13 and 14, 2018 at the Cowboy True Art Exhibit and Auction. It was fun. We also voted in 2 new members to our Cowboy Cartoonists Internation group, Pepe Villasenor and Wheeler "Slim" Hughes. In March of 2013 Graphic Classics Publishing released a new book written and illustrated by Native Americans titled "Native American Classics". I had the privilage of illustrating one of the stories. I was initiated into the western life at an early age on my grandfather's primitive Oklahoma farm. No electricity, no in-door plumbin',an outhouse, farming with horses, wood stove heating and cooking, and a one-room schoolhouse. You Know? The Good Ol' Days! I am proud of my Choctaw heritage from my great great grandmother who refused to register with the U.S. government because she said, "They took the babies." |
